POINT-OF-CARE TESTING: State of the art and perspectives
Point-of-care testing (POCT) is the fastest-growing segment of laboratory medicine and the COVID-19 pandemic has raised an increasing concern on the adoption of POCT not only in traditional settings, namely critical care and disaster situations, but also in primary care, pharmacies, and for home testing,
There is no doubt that POCT represents a disruptive innovation in laboratory medicine, but the discussion about how to set analytical performance specifications, quality control and quality assurance as well as the training of operators needs further debate and initiatives.
The aim of this two-days meeting is to discuss the state of the art and future perspectives of POCT in different scenarios and clinical settings to provide recommendations and practical guidelines for a more effective and safe adoption of POCT.
The most influent experts of POCT have been invited to deliver lecturers and discuss the traditional and emerging technologies for molecular and genetic diagnostics, the role of Artificial Intelligence as an integrative tool and, in general, its role in value-based laboratory medicine.
