ACUTE CORONARY SYNDROMES From high-risk plaque to high-risk patient
During the past few decades, we have learned a great deal about the pathogenesis and
mechanisms of acute coronary syndromes at the molecular, cellular, pathological and
clinical levels. The concept of the so-called “vulnerable plaque” has guided research
and thinking on this topic. Yet, as evidence has accumulated, the risk profile of our
patients has shifted, and novel therapies have been reshaping atherosclerotic disease,
with a transition from focusing on individual “vulnerable plaque” to understanding
atherosclerotic disease as multifactorial and systemic disease. The main objective
of this International Meeting will be to provide the latest update on this topic, from
exploring the pathophysiological basis of the disease to its assessment with novel
advanced imaging technologies and treatment.
