The Cardiovascular and Cell Sciences Research Institute and St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
With over 150 scientists and clinical academics, the Institute of Cardiovascular and Cell Sciences (CVCS RI), directed by Professor Juan Carlos Kaski and Professor Mark Fisher, brings together clinical and basic science researchers with the aim to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic solutions and gain insight into biological processes involved in human disease. Research in CVCSRI focuses on cardiovascular sudden death, ageing and its associated diseases, neurosciences and neurosurgery, as well as molecular and genetic mechanisms of disease and therapy.

The Research Institute shares its campus and works in close collaboration with St George’s NHS Hospital, the largest hospital within St George's Healthcare NHS Trust, one of the largest hospital and community health service providers in the UK. Located in southwest London. St George’s Hospital is one of the country’s principal teaching hospitals (>1,000 beds). St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of 1.3 million. A number of its services are members of established clinical networks, which bring together doctors, nurses and many other healthcare professionals working to improve the quality of services for patients. The recently created Cardiology Clinical Academic Group (Cardiology CAG), directed by Dr Stephen Brecker, represents yet another collaborative link between St George’s University of London and the NHS Trust in the area of Cardiovascular care. An integral part of CVCSRI and the NHS Trust, the Cardiology CAG aims at achieving excellence in both patient care and translational research in the area of cardiovascular disease.
