A warm welcome to all local and international delegates at our inaugural educational seminar co-organized by the College of Surgeons, Singapore, College of Anaesthesiologists, Singapore and Fondazione Internazionale Menarini, Italy.
The theme of the seminar is UTOPIA – Updates on Best Practices in Perioperative Care. In today’s patient-centric and value-based healthcare world, patient autonomy and safety are crucial factors to ensure good patient outcomes. Despite advances in medical technology, creation of new drugs and treatment modalities, the crux of healthcare delivery will always center on the patient, who needs to be well-informed and optimized for surgery. The operating theatre is the place where many precious lives are saved through surgery, but it is also the place where errors can occur due to the complexity of processes and communication required for safe surgery to be performed.
This seminar has brought together key opinion leaders from Singapore and 9 other countries to share their best practices ranging from informed consent, pre-operative management, risk management in surgery, to continuing education and a glimpse of the future of Medicine. We hope that this seminar will enlighten and energize the surgical and anaesthesia communities, so that our operating theatres can become the utopia in our hospitals. Beyond the sharing and learning, we hope that this seminar can enhance the collegiality of our specialists both locally and internationally, so that we can all provide the best care for our surgical patients.
